Engines and Drivetrains
The 2019 Chrysler Pacifica provides aspiring owners
with the choice of two unique powertrains: a segment-first hybrid vehicle offering
82 MPGe in the city, due to an innovative dual-motor eFlite® electrically
variable transmission (EVT), and a next-generation variant of the iconic
3.6-liter Pentastar® V6, paired with a segment-exclusive TorqueFlite®
nine-speed automatic transmission for a formidable 287 horsepower and 262
pound-feet.
Both the Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna offer a
3.5-liter V6 engine, with the former exerting 280 horsepower and the latter
producing 296 horsepower. However, while the Toyota Sienna produces marginally
greater horsepower specifications, its eight-speed automatic transmission
reaches an uninspiring 22 combined miles per gallon in fuel efficiency. The Kia
Sedona lags significantly behind the pack, producing 276 horsepower from its
lean 3.3-liter engine, and reaching a combined fuel efficiency of only 20 miles
per gallon.
Between the optional hybrid powertrain and the
marginally larger displacement engine, the Chrysler Pacifica surges ahead of
the competition with an ideal culmination of efficiency, power and composure.
Due to the larger displacement, peak horsepower and torque specifications are
reached sooner than leaner, smaller engines with similar specifications -
ultimately maximizing fuel efficiency by remaining at lower RPMs.
