Fuel Efficiency of Dodge Vehicles

From Muscle to Hustle, Dodge Cars, SUVs, and Vans Are Models of Fuel Efficiency for Your Southern PA Drive

For more than a century, Dodge has remained committed to producing vehicles of impeccable quality, and with a history as storied as its modern "Domestic, Not Domesticated" slogan suggests, it goes without saying that it's come many miles. You can see its progress in many forms, to be sure, but none so prominent as that in fuel economy.

Consider brand hallmarks like Dodge Charger and Challenger, one, a mid-size sedan with muscle-car creds, the other, the iconic and celebrated sports coupe. You can find nine high-octane Charger trims from which to choose, spanning from base SXT through midrange Daytona to SRT® Hellcat at the top of the line. 15 Challenger trim levels, just as brawny, range from base models like SXT and SXT Plus through those mid-level like T/A and R/T Scat Pack and all the way to the top-tier SRT® 392 and Hellcat. Though each of these beasts is geared more for pleasure-cruising thrills around hotspots like Harrisburg, you can expect respectable mileage for turning heads about town and down the boulevard -- up to 19 mpg city and 30 mpg highway in base models.

Ascend to Dodge Journey, our automaker's mid-size crossover in SE, SXT, Crossroad, and GT trims, and you'll find a selection of two engines: a 2.4-liter four-cylinder, or a 283-horsepower, 3.6-liter Pentastar® V6, the latter with dual variable valve timing and paired with a six-speed auto transmission with AutoStick for optimal efficiency. That means a go-anywhere fuel economy of up to 19 mpg city and 25 mpg down the highway to Mechanicsburg at base, or more than 500 highway miles on a single tank.

Then there's Dodge Durango, the beefy mid-size SUV. Its SXT, SXT Plus, GT, Citadel, R/T, and SRT trim line builds in a 3.6-liter V6. The powertrain's capable of up to 19 mpg city and 26 mpg highway in its base, the latter a best-in-class rating. Upgrade to an available 5.7-liter HEMI® V8, and you can still get up to 22 highway mpg, and with the performance benefit of 360 horsepower, thanks to advanced fuel-saving technology, which disengages four cylinders when you don't need all eight, as well as an advanced eight-speed automatic transmission, which features an Eco Mode to tune the transmission's shift points and throttle sensitivity. The result is around 500 to more than 600 miles of driving range, depending on which engine you choose.

Finally, the passenger- and cargo-friendly Dodge Grand Caravan, our nameplate's long-time and well-regarded minivan, appears in a trio of SE, SE Plus, and SXT trims, sporting a capable 283-horsepower V6 Flex-Fuel engine shelling 260 pound-feet of torque. It showcases a fuel economizer, activated with a simple touch of an ECON button, that modifies engine timing and shift points to make the most of fuel economy. Factor in 17-inch all-season, low-rolling-resistance tires for less churn down the road, easing gas demands, and you can count on up to 17 mpg in a city like Newport, PA and 25 mpg on the highway.
