Fuel Efficiency of Jeep SUVs

Explore How Jeep Fuel Efficiency Technologies and Ratings Stack Up for Your Adventure Here at Forrer Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM

It's a wide world out there in our neck of the southern PA woods. It might be just a short trip down along the Susquehanna River to Harrisburg or out to Mechanicsburg, and Newport, PA might be just up the 849 or the 22, but beyond that, there's a lot of ground to cover. You'll need the right crossover or SUV to take you there, rugged from chassis to frame, bumper to bumper, top to wheel. But more than that, between city lights, the highway cruise, and heading off the beaten path, you'll probably appreciate having that extra mile, too. That's where a Jeep come in, Mother Nature-tested, tried, and found true. Check out how it does at the pump, and you'll see what we mean.

Take Jeep Wrangler, in its Sport and Sport S bases, midrange Sahara, or celebrated all-terrain Rubicon trim. With two engine options -- one, a 285-horsepower, 3.6-liter Pentastar® V6, and secondly, an all-new 270-horsepower, 2.0-liter turbocharged I4 with an eTorque mild hybrid system, a first-ever for Jeep -- you can get up to 17 mpg city and 23 mpg highway. Just opt for a six-speed manual transmission. Now, consider the new Jeep Wrangler JK. Its trims range from Sport and Sport S out the gate through Willys Wheeler, Golden Eagle, and Freedom Edition, all the way to Sahara, Altitude, and the masterly Rubicon and Rubicon Recon duo. Equip one with a 285-horsepower, 3.6-liter Pentastar® V6 and a six-speed manual, and in two-door models, you can expect up to 17 mpg city and 23 highway mpg, with four-door models offering up to 16 mpg and 21 mpg respectively.

If you're looking for a little more distance, check out Jeep Cherokee Latitude, its Latitude Plus sibling, the luxurious Cherokee Limited, high-powered Trailhawk®, or fully loaded Overland. You can select one of three engines. One is a 180-horsepower, 2.4-liter TigerShark® MultiAir® 2. Build in a nine-speed auto, and up to 22 mpg city and 31 mpg highway results. That's up to 489 miles on the highway on a single tank, thanks to both dual variable valve timing and an intake manifold with valve flow control. The second is a 271-horsepower, 3.2-liter Pentastar® V6, with the ability to cut off fuel and deactivate the engine when you stop. That kind of fuel conservation and resulting emissions reduction, in tandem with a nine-speed auto, makes for up to 20 city mpg and 29 highway mpg. Go with a turbocharged 270-horsepower, 2.0-liter engine with a nine-speed automatic, on the other hand, and you can get a respective 23 mpg and 31 mpg.

Now, look at Jeep Grand Cherokee. Its trim line might be huge, spanning from Laredo to Summit, with Upland, Altitude, Limited, Overland, High Altitude, and a special Sterling Edition in between. It might even have more performance-minded, less gas-sipping models like Trailhawk®, SRT®, and Trackhawk for a high-octane thrill or two. But with fuel-saving technology, you can still expect up to 19 mpg city and 26 mpg highway, depending on the trim and which of its four engine's you choose. They include a max 295-horsepower, 3.6-liter Pentastar® V6, a 360-horsepower, 5.7-liter HEMI® V8, a workhorse 475-horsepower, 6.4-liter HEMI SRT V8, and a beastly supercharged 707-horsepower, 6.2-liter HEMI V8.

Go Jeep Compass, in Sport, Latitude, Altitude, Limited, or Trailhawk trims, and you can look forward to up to 22 mpg city and 31 mpg highway thanks to a 180-horsepower, 2.4-liter Tigershark MultiAir 2 engine paired with a nine-speed auto and equipped with Stop/Start technology. Jeep Renegade and its trim levels, ranging from Sport and Latitude to Altitude and Upland, with Limited and Trailhawk atop, feature two engines, each great with gas. One's the well-known 180-horsepower, 2.4-liter Tigershark MultiAir 2, offering up to 21 mpg city and 29 mpg highway with a nine-speed auto, and the other's a 160-horsepower, 1.4-liter MultiAir Turbo which, with a six-speed auto, gets a superb 24 mpg city and 31 mpg highway.
